First "video"

"Something New"

Thanks to my Mass Communication class, I am learning how to make videos and all kinds of cool things. Not to mention the professor is AWESOME!!

Oh yeah, my first "video" is not really a video, just some still shots with transitions and music.

Either way it goes, it's all a learning process!

Multimedia Storytelling Critiques

The first multimedia story I stumbled upon is the "Come on home to Green River."   It goes is filled with pictures, natural sounds and what seems to be interviews of residents.  This multimedia story is an addition to the story that can help you understand the multimedia story.  It shows the struggle and gives outsiders the inside scoop on what is really going on and how some residents actually feel about it.

The second multimedia story I found is about a former fire lookout.  It tells the story of him reminiscing about his job while showing pictures of what he actually did. The pictures and interview helps explain the story, so listening is key.  This one is also an addition to an article.

Out of the two I've seen, I think they are good, have great pictures and audio, while also having substance and meaning behind them.

Event Infographic

Under one roof: Ronnie Jordan & KontraBand Muzik

Winthrop University’s DiGiorgio Student Union Programming Board hosted a cultural event last Friday with comedian Ronnie Jordan and KontraBand Muzik for listening pleasures.

After a long day of rain, ice and snow, the event was still to be held at 8 p.m. at The Edge stage in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.  Nothing was going to get in the way.

Upon arrival, the audience seemed to be slim, but after getting a closer look, the only thing slim was the amount of seating left.

                                   

Ronnie Jordan had the crowd with tears in their eyes as they laughed at his jokes and other comical actions.

“Due to the weather, I did not expect this many people to come out for the show,” explained DSU member Justine Zipp, who explained how funny Ronnie Jordan was.

Once Ronnie Jordan was done, KontraBand Muzik made their way to the stage.

The crowd was entertained as they performed several songs ranging from cover songs to their originals in a variety of genres.

KontraBand Muzik’s music even made Gumby do a little dance which had the crowd in shock, unaware that Gumby had any moves.

Passion Bankhead’s reaction to the night was, “I am so happy I decided to leave my room, despite the weather, because the Ronnie Jordan was awesome and KontraBand Muzik made me want to dance!”

As the show concluded, the audience had the opportunity to take pictures with the acts and purchase any merchandise they brought.

Medicine mix-up causes 7-year-old's death

The death of a 7-year-old girl after being administered wrong painkiller is ruled 'accidental' by local police department.

Washington Elementary School student, Tania Abondanzio, was admitted to Mercy Hospital last Friday morning for the removal of her tonsils in a tonsillectomy and died Saturday morning.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that Tania's cause of death was being administered the wrong medication by a pediatric nurse, said hospital officials.

The nurse gave the girl a half milligram of hydromorphone, known as Dilaudid, instead of the morphine sulphate prescribed by her physician.

Tania was given the drug at 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon and later developed severe respiratory problems at 2:40 p.m.  She also complained of being hot and went into what appeared to be a seizure, then was transferred to the intensive care ward where she remained in a coma until Saturday morning and was pronounced brain dead.

She was taken off the respirators and died minutes at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The nurse who administered the drug noticed what had happened while doing a routine narcotics inventory during the shift changed and notified her supervisor immediately.

The hospital administrator, Dr. Irwin Greenhouse, released this statement to the press, "Our sympathy goes out to the family, and we will stay close to them to provide support."

The nurse's name has not been released, but she has been suspended.

Infographic Critique

W-2 help for you
Is this actually helpful for those completing their W-2 Form?  I think it could be beneficial, even though the form it's pretty straight-forward.  Some people still may have a question or two as to what is really wanted in each box because no one wants to use the wrong numbers in the wrong boxes.  This infographic makes filling the form out even easier.  It categorizes the boxes and coordinates them using colors, while explaining each number and letter.  Even if one were to print it out in black and white, they would still be able to understand each box due to the use of numbers and letters.  This has to be one of the simplest, yet informing, infographics I have ever seen, but is it too simple?


Tablet adoption
What exactly is this infographic about? It has a lot going on, without having much.  To understand this infographic I suggest checking out this website and going from there.  To someone who has no idea about the tablet adoption in small to midsize businesses, these figures and words mean nothing, unless it encourages the reader to research the topic on their own.  The color use is good, but the use of the percentages may discourage someone from reading it.  The use of tablets to display information is great, especially since it is about the use of tablets.


ADHD Unleashed
What is ADHD? If you don't know, be sure to do your research.  Now you know about ADHD, the types, and how one is affected by the disorder.  The use of graphics and colors does not discourage one from reading it.  The font may seem small to some and it may seem wordy, but it's not because it makes you want to read it.  Using the pictures to play off the words is a good idea, it could actually be used to help young children learn about ADHD thanks to the colors, the lines aren't that long, and the pictures would grab their attention. Doesn't it just pull you in?

Final Thoughts: My infographic may be done on stress, unless I think of another brilliant topic, such as FRUIT!!
